Increase the compression ratio and the starter isn’t happy. Increase the temperature and it gets grumpy. Mix high temperature engine and ambient with a higher-than-normal static compression ratio and the starter becomes downright cantankerous. To make matters worse, whenever the thermometer really rises, you too can personally approach the boiling point, particularly if you have a Corvette that refuses to crank over, let alone start. If it is, then you need to check out the following pages. It’s a look at modern starting systems, aimed directly at modified Corvettes that, appropriately, have added heat under the hood as you know it’s an all too familiar saga–adding horsepower adds heat.

Otago Daily Times Filed Under: ATV Utility Vehicle Hunting Buggy – The rear electric atv motor is visible mounted on the rear axle of the Barefoot Motors electric ATV prototype Electric all-terrain vehicles may not impress the dune-and trail-riding crowd that rides for recreation, but a few small companies expect organic farmers and vineyard growers will pay a premium to gather cattle and spray vines without the carbon footprint of a gas vehicle.

While automakers are toiling to produce electric cars that will fit the demands of American drivers, Ashland-based Barefoot Motors is on the verge of turning out heavy-duty electric ATVs that can go 50 miles on a charge costing about 90 cents. She’d like to haul her spraying equipment without fogging the vines with exhaust fumes, and the electric ATV motors could get free power from the vineyard’s solar panels. It’s even more cost-efficient for farms producing their own power from solar panels or manure digesters, and as gas prices go up.

For Classic Chevy restorers one of the most important safety features your car needs is a wiring system that is in good working order. Years-old wiring that has been spliced, modified, is dry-rotted or in generally poor condition could lead to an untimely breakdown or much worse, a disastrous fire.

Where does the wiring harness from the alternator on an Chevy Celebrity run to? One is for grounding, one is from the battery, and the other is from the voltage regulator. In a GM alternator however, there may be two wires or only one wire. It depends on whether you have an external voltage re…gulator or not, and if the alternator simply grounds itself to the bracket it’s attached to. The best way to find out is to trace the wires to their sources. If it’s anything like earier 80’s there will be 2.

One from the battery and one from the harness. Then there will be a ignition hot to the small post on the starter which operates the cylinoid SP? I believe the hot side is about a guage red and the cyl.

We have been making this kit since The advantages of this remote starter solenoid system are obvious. No more “live” positive battery cable routed down to the starter, where it might become shorted. No longer will those small wires be routed to the starter—where they are often very difficult to work with. No more small starter wires burned by the exhaust system on V-8 and V-6 applications. The small wires will be re-routed to the new, remote, solenoid, supplied in the kit.

Prior to , all Delco starters used an identification tag that was riveted to the starter motor housing. After the model year, the tag was eliminated. The starter ID number and date code was stamped directly into the body of the starter housing. Given the massive number of starters used over the years, it is impossible to list every combination. However, the stamped starter ID number happens to coincide with the unit part number. What about date codes?

These codes consist of a number that represents the final digit of the calendar year. Following the year code is a character that indicates the month of production. This character is a letter. Codes A sample starter date code might be as follows: Month codes are as follows: The good news is companies offer all sorts of starter hardware for Chevys. And aside from date codes, all of it is indistinguishable from vintage hardware.

Apr 29,  · On a GM engine of this vintage the starter relay is mounted on the starter, so there is no separate relay on the fender. However, if you have problems with the starter because of exhaust header heat soak, a common fix is to switch to a remote relay.

Although you don’t actually need your fender mounted relay with this type of starter, I’d leave it as a convenient power distribution point. Even with the new harness, it could come in handy. As far as the battery cables to the starter go, the only downside is that leaving it means one extra cable. The up-side of that though, is that both cables are shorter, cheaper, easier to replace when necessary, and probably easier to find good routing as well. Not to mention the fact that you probably already have the correct cables for using it that way.

Just re-use the old cables if they’re in good shape. If not, new ones are cheap insurance for a new wiring job’s success. Either way though, the new Purple wire goes on the starter side lug. Personally, I’d connect them together on the one battery-side lug, and use the Purple wire alone, from the starter-side of the relay down to the solenoid. Your old relay is basically redundant, but serves two purposes when hooked this way.

It is the power distribution, and isolates the starter motor from the rest of the system. Theoretically at least, this is unnecessary, but I’ve seen re-wire applications where this type of starter can give some feedback to the ignition system and cause the engine to run-on for a second or two after you turn the key off.

More to think about, but hey, what the heck. It’s a wiring job after all.

Media reaction to the ZR-1 was initially fantastic. Within days of its unveiling in Geneva, the ZR-1 owned the cover of virtually every magazine in the world. The first significant improvement to the Corvette in nearly half a decade involved the introduction of an entirely new manual transmission for the model year.

Testing the starter motor on any GM L equipped car or mini-van (to find out if it’s the one causing your car or mini-van not to crank) can be done in two easy tests and in this article, I’ll show you how.

July 24, It helps to deliver maximum voltage, but does not change the heat to the starter. It’ll start, but I just did mine and it still doesn’t spin as free as it does when its cold which I was hoping for. There is a starter heat blanket that might help, I’d stay away from header wrap as you’ll rust the headers out. I hooked mine up by removing the wires to the chevy starter put the big terminal on one of the large post on the ford solenoid, put the small wire to the ‘s’ terminal, run a additional lug to lug starter cable down to the starter.

Make up a small pig tail with a big loop end and small loop end. Hook the big loop of your made up pigtail onto the big post on the chevy starter and run the other end of the pigtail to the ‘s’ terminal on the chevy starter. If your running a HEI, your done. If you run a point ignition you’ll need to run a wire from the ‘I’ terminal on the ford solenoid to the coil to bypass the ballast resister during cranking.

The first thing to do is to hook up a booster cable from the battery + post directly to the terminal on the starter. If the starter still doesn’t spin over, then it needs work. Another component.

I’m looking to install a right hand tail light and turn signal for safety reasons on my Tudor. Since it’s a , it has the drum tail light with the cast bracket attached to the rear body subframe. I’m looking for the location dimensions for the 3 holes on the right hand side to mount the new RH bracket? Bratton’s Also any information on the clinch nuts to install in the subframe rail would be appreciated.

I’ve found nothing on this topic at all; been a real challenge. I can find no source for mounting instructions for a RH tail light. I did find that the mounting positions for the LH tail light vary significantly from body to body and year to year of the Model A. I have mounted several RH tail lights on my cars and have taken careful measurements for the mounting position for the tail light on the left rear of the car and replicated that position to right rear of the car. Since the holes are covered with the mounting brackets, I suggest that you remove the brackets prior to taking measurements so that you can find exact distances to the center of the holes.

Where is the starter on a Chevrolet Camaro? The starter is located under the vehicle – towards the middle of the vehicle, about as far back as the front tires. It’s bolted up behind the exhaust. Its actually pretty easy to get at. It is actually on the passenger side of the bellhousing. Location of Starter on Venture. The starter is right next to the oil filter which is on the lower front side of the engine.

It is pretty much in line with the hood latch. How do you get a Chevrolet Lumina starter out? Make sure it’s secure, as the starter bolts can be rather tight and you might need to torque pretty hard. I had mine on ramps. Drain the oil and remove the oil filter, after it has drained, remove the plastic oil filter guard which is directly …under the filter, three small bolts here. Loosen and remove two of the three nuts on the solenoid: There is no need to remove the other 13mm nut for the wire that connects the starter to the solenoid.
