I am honored to have been asked to speak this morning on the topic of ecumenism from a Reformed perspective shaped by my work as a church historian and by my engagement with the work of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. At the heart of the ecumenical movement, as Reformed people see it, is the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, together with all Christians, so that the world may believe. This gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed by the preaching and teaching of the Word of God and by the visible word of the sacraments, so that a witnessing and serving community is created, which is the church. The unity of love within the church itself witnesses to its life as the one body of Christ, with many diverse members, with Christ as its head. Our forefather, John Calvin, followed Martin Luther in identifying the distinguishing marks of the church as the preaching of the Word of God and the observance of the sacraments. Calvin explains These can never exist without bringing forth fruit and prospering by God’s blessing.

They ceased with the disciples. Dozens of personal experiences and medically documented cases have caused me to do a on this. The idea that miracles are fake is literally the 8th lie of Organized Religion.

In What Is Reformed Theology?, Dr. R.C. Sproul offers a comprehensive introduction to Reformed theology. Simply put, it is the theology of the Protestant Reformers and the heart of historical evangelicalism. As C.H. Spurgeon once said, Reformed theology is nothing other than biblical Christianity.

In a Synod was held in Nagyenyed when the Reformed and Lutheran church separated. This date is the founding date of the Transylvanian Reformed Church. Partium was an adjected part of Transylvania it was a separated geographical area, the Hungarian-transylvanian princes ruled this part too. In this land was founded the Kiralyhagomellek Reformed District. It has congregations and , members. The Romanian Hungarian are very religious the religion is community binding. The member churches of EKD were formerly the Protestant state churches in German states before the separation of religion and state in EKD represents, alongside Catholicism, Germany’s “mainstream” religious bodies. The German Reformed Church, unusually, does not trace its origins back to Zwingli or Calvin, but rather to Philipp Melanchthon , Luther’s best friend and closest ally.

After Melanchthon’s death in , extremist Lutherans from whom Luther had previously distanced himself accused Melanchthon’s successors in the ” Philippist ” cause of Crypto-Calvinism and mercilessly persecuted and sometimes killed them in several states, especially Saxony. Other states, such as Hesse -Cassel , remained openly Philippist and Reformed.

Only during the time of Calvin — himself did genuinely Calvinist influences enter the German Reformed faith; even today, it remains more Philippist than Calvinist.

These Last Days is a book about an evil age, the present age.. Specifically, it is about the present evil age that we live in right now. For many Christians, the expression these last days refers to the time right before the second coming of Christ but according to the apostles, the last days started with the first coming of Christ and continue even today.

A Biblical and Systematic Investigation in – download pdf or read online Posted on by admin By Hans Burger ‘Being in Christ’ is a critical subject matter within the message of the gospel. It determines the identification of a Christian. In this ebook, the topic ‘being in Christ’ is analyzed in several views. First, representatives of the Reformed culture are investigated: And Hans Burger has pulled it off through refusing to set key subject matters reminiscent of illustration and participation over opposed to one another yet embracing them in a fuller portrait.

For breadth of scope, intensity of perception, and invaluable pastoral software, works through different Reformed theologians are evoked: Baillie’s God used to be in Christ and Lewis B. Smedes’s Union with Christ. It reports the correct New testomony material–notably the Pauline and Johannine writings. And it enters into fruitful discussion with modern theology–interacting either with Ingolf Dalferth and Oliver O’Donovan. The force in the back of the probing old, biblical, and theological analyses is crystal-clear:

A Dilemma A few weeks after I graduated from seminary, some Mormon missionaries came to our door. My wife invited them in, and we started talking. But we were just getting into the important questions when we ran out of time. So we agreed to meet with them the following week. They ended up coming weekly for the rest of the summer. Since I had just completed four years of training in biblical theology, Greek and Hebrew, I was quite confident that I could persuade these teenage missionaries by exegetical arguments from Scripture that Mormonism is false and that the Gospel, as we understood it then, is true.

Simplifications Epistemology is confusing because there are several sorts of items to be evaluated and several sorts of evaluation. Since the topic of this article is the epistemology of religion not general epistemology it will be assumed that what is being evaluated is something related to faith, namely individual religious beliefs, and that the way of evaluating religious beliefs is as justified or unjustified.

It also ignores disputes between coherence theorists and foundationalists and disputes over whether belief is voluntary. Although these have some implications for the epistemology of religion they are primarily topics in general epistemology. Although the topic is religious belief the same questions can be asked about faith in the absence of belief, where the standards might be laxer.

For example John Schellenberg has argued that it is not justified to believe in a personal God, not justified to have faith in a personal God , not justified even to believe in something ultimate but it is justified to have a religious attitude of faith in something ultimate. Finally, and more controversially, this entry concentrates on Western epistemology of religion, which is not, however, the same as the epistemology of Western religion. Note, though, that epistemological disputes between Hindu and Buddhist philosophers over a thousand years ago are much the same as those here considered.

Here are some links for Classical Apologetics websites. I endorse and hold to Classical Apologetics as a true method for defending the faith. Walter Martin probably one of the greatest apologists of the twentieth century is back on the air. Listen to debates by him here.

Online learning has become a popular alternative to traditional residential study because of its flexible time alternatives, convenience to home and work, and course scheduling. Online learning requires a high level of self-direction and discipline, common for adult learners. Some students, however, prefer residential courses because of the structure of the classroom. When assessing your learning choice, you should take into consideration your goals, learning styles, and reasons for enrolling in a seminary course.

Online learning may be the perfect choice for you. How long do courses last? The online academic terms are four, eight, and sixteen weeks long.

The principle is that you must guard your heart so that it does not become entangled emotionally without the protection of a covenant. Many of these exhortations that follow may seem a trifle negative, but believe me, the results will be positive. When a woman leaves her heart unguarded and becomes attached to the wrong man, she exposes herself to great hurt or harm. Remember, whoever he is, if he is not your husband, you have no business submitting to him in any area, especially if he wants you to engage in a little physical affection when there is no fence of covenantal protection around the relationship.

Virginity is a priceless inheritance you bring into marriage. You must guard your imagination if you want to guard your heart.

If you have concerns about his godliness, his character, his theology, his relationship to his parents, his lifestyle, or anything else, back off, and maybe you should back out. Of course you have protection in the counsel and advice of your parents, but be careful not to marry someone simply to please your parents.

Sometimes I don’t agree with myself. The question is, What distinguishes a Christian goat breeder from another? I supposed one function of a Christian Goat Breeders Society is to breed Christian goats only with other Christian goats. And inasmuch as it is the Calvinists who form such societies, I suppose we can go a step further and say that the Society provided a service by which Calvinist Christian goats would be bred only with other Christian Calvinistic goats.

I came across a video which reminded me of that story. It is one of those dramatizations based on real life events.

Covenant theology Reformed theologians use the concept of covenant to describe the way God enters fellowship with people in history. The terms of the covenant are that God provides a blessed life in the garden on condition that Adam and Eve obey God’s law perfectly. Because Adam and Eve broke the covenant by eating the forbidden fruit , they became subject to death and were banished from the garden.

At a minimum it is undeniable that Christians owned houses as most Churches were house churches. This means the situation with the rich young ruler was a specific and unusual case. It seems to me that Christ’s demands of him were equal to his boasts of how righteous he was. Not to say that this young man was a hypocrite but only miserably ignorant of his true sinfulness.

The fact that Jesus appears to have liked him, makes me think he probably became a Christian later and his sorrow was only temporary. The man boasts of being so holy, and in his mind he probably was that naive. However Jesus was about to suffer on a cross and many who followed him would also soon have to arm themselves to suffer. Therefore if this man really wanted to perfect, that is fully take the present circumstances and throw all of his life into what he situation demanded, not only would Christ’s command be actually true to meet his claimed desire, but it would also quickly show him how foolish his boast was.

Now regarding your other references about loving our neighbor and how insincere our love is when we hold onto our money while witnessing a brother in need. There is no trick of interpretation that can reasonably relieve the conscience from this. However I think this touches on the overall teaching about money and the Christian, which I will quickly share my opinion.

Holy Spirit, Church, and New Creation. With the release of this final volume, the entire work is available in English for the first time. In the postmodern world the person and work of the incarnate Son of God continues to be the only basis of hope for all creation and the effective minister of the gospel must be an exegete of both the Word and the world. This volume is divided into three sections, each addressing an aspect of the work of the Spirit of God. This volume, like the three previously published, includes a bibliography and several indexes.

What is different about this volume is that there are three combined indexes, of Scripture, names, and subjects. Thus the student of Bavinck will find in this volume a helpful resource for the location of major topics in the other volumes. Those who desire to understand the faith once for all delivered to the saints will be rewarded for a careful and systematic reading of the work in these four volumes.
